Responsible Use & Legal Notice
Purpose of the Project
Uroboros is an open-source autonomous security testing framework developed for legitimate cybersecurity research, authorized penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, and security education.
The project's objective is to help security professionals identify, investigate, reproduce, verify, and document vulnerabilities to improve the security of information systems.
Uroboros is a dual-use security tool. Its technical capabilities may be applicable to both defensive research and offensive security testing. The project does not endorse, encourage, or support unauthorized access, malicious exploitation, data theft, or other unlawful activity.
Authorization and Scope
Users are expected to operate Uroboros only against systems they own or are explicitly authorized to assess by a party entitled to grant that permission.
Before conducting security assessments, users should establish the permitted targets, testing methods, duration, operational limits, and handling of collected information.
Public accessibility of a system does not constitute authorization to perform penetration testing.
Authorization for one system does not automatically extend to connected services, third-party infrastructure, or other systems encountered during testing.
Responsible Security Testing
Security testing may affect system availability, integrity, and confidentiality.
Users are responsible for conducting assessments within their authorized scope, minimizing unnecessary impact, and complying with applicable laws and contractual obligations.
Potentially disruptive or destructive activities, including denial-of-service testing, persistence, lateral movement, and extraction of sensitive information, require specific authorization.
Unexpected access to out-of-scope systems or sensitive data should not be treated as permission for further testing.
Research and Demonstrations
Published demonstrations, benchmarks, and case studies are intended to document technical research and reproducible findings.
Each demonstration should identify its actual testing environment, authorization context, methodology, and relevant limitations.
The publication of a vulnerability or exploitation technique does not constitute authorization to reproduce it against third-party systems.
Open-Source Distribution
Uroboros is developed as an open-source project to support transparency, reproducible security research, and community-driven development.
Access to the source code and the permissions granted by the software license do not constitute authorization to access or interfere with third-party systems.
This notice communicates the project's intended purpose and responsible-use expectations. It does not modify the applicable open-source license or override any legal obligations.
Security Research and Disclosure
The project encourages responsible vulnerability disclosure, cooperation with affected vendors, and accurate documentation of verified security findings.
Security concerns involving Uroboros itself may be reported privately through the project's published contact channel.
Legal Notice
Users are responsible for ensuring that their activities comply with applicable laws and that they have appropriate authorization for their security assessments.
The project does not authorize unlawful conduct, and nothing in its documentation should be interpreted as granting permission to access, exploit, disrupt, or modify systems without authorization.
The software is provided under the terms of its applicable open-source license.
